Here’s how to stay safe when you’ve broken down

Breaking down wasn’t part of your plan today, but your safety comes first. If your vehicle stops unexpectedly, follow these steps:

  • Pull over safely – move to the left, switch on your hazard lights, and get as far off the road as you can.
  • Leave the vehicle carefully – use the left-hand doors. Keep pets inside until it is safe.
  • Stand in a safe spot – stay well away from traffic. Behind a barrier is best, if there is one.
  • Call for help – call GoVivid breakdown or use an emergency phone if you’re on a motorway.
  • Stay visible, stay alert – keep hazards flashing and wear bright clothing if you have it.
